| Live events are a challenge to videographers. Each professional has
their own system of ensuring that the event is captured. Live events cannot be
done over because a critical piece of footage was not recorded. Live events are
supposed to be predictable but that is not always the case. Recently a
titleholder was jumping for joy after her name was announced as the winner up to
the point she was actually crowned. Our editing met the nipplegate challenge by
editing each frame individually (the NSTC standard is 29.97 frames per second)
to make it appear that the gown did not fail her. Single Camera solutions are not applicable - pass them by unless you want a simple home movie. Crew Solutions - Basically three or four cameras are set up with each camera requiring a technician to monitor the camera. The technicians will each have a separate area to concentrate on i.e. one for panorama and one for close ups (but in reality only the crew member assigned to close ups really does much) . In some cases an expensive jib set up may be used in conjunction with the fourth camera which will concentrate on overhead shots. Because of the crew requirements - this is a very expensive undertaking. Sound is usually recorded on one master track. Our Solution - more cameras and less crew. Instead of a jib we just place a camera in the overhead attached to whatever can support a small 1lb mini-dv camera. We use up to 7 cameras (plus 2 in reserve - or we can use up to 9 with no reserve) placed in strategic places to capture every part of your event from multiple angles. One camera (main) is designated for close--ups while the rest can be remote controlled. The remote control is rarely used as camera placement is in depth as well as width. Our solution is cost effective and eliminates waste. One mobile camera is designated for close ups. The mobile camera is also capable of simultaneously capturing 1024X767 (1.3MB) or 640X480 digital still images for a website. Our Sound - Since each camera records it's own stereo sound track,
during the editing process tracks from different cameras can be substituted in
order to eliminate or downplay specific annoyances i.e. baby crying or a
member(s) of the audience acting out.
